Born in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Aliea holds a BFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art and currently resides in Alameda, CA.
Aliea's work consists of carefully rendered figures and a kind of kinetic reaction painting, sometimes combined in one piece. Classically trained, Aliea's early work was mostly focused on realistic portraiture, landscapes and still life.
With the loss of her mother to cancer, Aliea began to study and paint cells. She abstracted them more and more as a rise to expressing the essence of the present moment or specific person, often using her fingers, plants and other untraditional tools to apply and subtract paint.
The work containing actual photographs are physically altered in response to the image, or moment represented by being partially stripped of its emulsion and then painted.
